LCBO stores raise funds for caregiver support services
ONTARIO, October 27, 2009 – This November, the public can help support caregivers in their local communities by making a donation to the Saint Elizabeth Health Care Foundation at any of the 608 LCBO stores throughout Ontario. Donation boxes for the Foundation will be displayed at LCBO checkout counters until the end of November.
The Saint Elizabeth Health Care Foundation is a national non-profit charity dedicated to raising funds for the advancement of knowledge and charitable initiatives in home and community care.
Funds raised through the LCBO donation program will benefit the Foundation’s Caregiver Support Program, a popular program that assists informal (unpaid) caregivers to more effectively care for their loved ones at home. In addition to providing respite or “relief” care free of charge to families in need, the program also offers counseling and education in areas such as health and stress management and caregiving instruction.
“We would like to thank the LCBO, its employees and especially its customers for answering the call for increased resources in the area of informal caregiving,” says Susanne Williams, Chair of the Saint Elizabeth Health Care Foundation. “The LCBO’s province-wide store network is a very effective way for us to raise awareness and funds for this critical and growing issue.”
“We are pleased to partner with the Saint Elizabeth Health Care Foundation,” says LCBO President and CEO Bob Peter. “LCBO’s customers and staff have always responded generously to worthy causes, and we appreciate whatever they can give to help their fellow Ontarians.”
The Saint Elizabeth Health Care Foundation is one of 26 provincial and numerous local charities that will benefit from the LCBO’s province-wide donation box program in 2009. Last year, $1.3 million was raised through LCBO’s in-store donation box program. In addition, LCBO’s annual dividend transfer to the Ontario government, which totaled $1.4 billion in fiscal 2008-09, excluding taxes, supports a wide range of important government programs, services and priorities, including health care and education.
The Saint Elizabeth Health Care Foundation thanks the public for its support when shopping at their local LCBO store during the month of November.
